Steer clear of the town of Cheektowaga if you are able to, better off bypassing it on the I-90, or you may end up a resident of their new 30 cells (that many in a town police department!) where you will be given a granola bar for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and told to drink water from the stainless steel toilet/sink combo, all the while listening to the belligerent detention officers b.s.'ing with the Judge telling him to set your bail higher than the standard amount.

Promotions are given by superiors for sexual favors. If an officer decides they don't like you, expect to have police cars drive by your house slowly, looking into your windows and checking to see if your vehicle is at home (even if it's on a dead end street at the town border 20 feet from where their jurisdiction ends), and trumped-up charges (aka felony reckless endangerment for spinning car tires in a parking lot).

Better than I

If you're writing negative reviews about the Cheektowaga police it's probably because you did something you weren't supposed to. I myself have had run-ins with this department when I was in my early twenties but I'm glad I did. Made me a better person. All of you African Americans out there that claim Cheektowaga is racist is probably because the majority of the crime committed in Cheektowaga is shoplifting or theft and are African-American teenagers. Whenever I've been in trouble or needed them they've showed up quickly and always acted in a professional manner. I myself was a former officer in another state. A Narcotics officer to be exact. Things are a lot different when you're on the other side. I've been on both sides. Let me tell you it's a lot more nerve-wracking risking your life every night then it is committing a crime.

TL,DR: Racist, corrupt, harassment from this department. Don't get on their bad side or you'll have to move, speaking from personal experience.

This department in plagued by racism, corruption, and targeting of specific community members that have spoken out against them. The K9 officer, John Doskocz, calls black residents "spooks" and the n word. He pulls up near the basketball court (by the way, he calls basketball n****r tree hockey) at the town park and gives the K9 the command in Hungarian that tells the dog to start viciously barking, attempting to scare the black teenagers "back over their side of the line" (into the City of Buffalo).

I was greatly helped by all the personnel (officers and secretaries) in the inquiries regarding my car accident. I was treated with courtesy and kindness, and they went the extra mile to insure my satisfaction. Well done to a great department that polices and protects a large area.

Full disclosure; I have been arrested by this department multiple times. HOWEVER, during my teenage years I was a member of their Explorer's program and did training and ride-alongs about once a week. I saw the lies, writing up a false statement and having a victim sign whatever the officer wrote, false and trumped up charges all the time, blantant racism, etc.

Edit: To Adam K; I’m white. I’m also friends with a few LEO’s where I now live, who are members of wonderful departments. CPD is as corrupt as a police department can be. I’ve been on the inside with their officers during training and ride-alongs, have you?

Years ago, there was a cop in Cheektowaga named Ray Nowicki. As a patrol cop, he was a bully. When he did a traffic stop, he was rude and tried to egg people on so they would say or do something that could be considered disorderly conduct. He loved disorderly conduct an resisting arrests so he could rough people up and then get paid overtime for numerous court appearances. The other cops laughed at him behind his back. Nowicki was sued several times for use of excessive force. He somehow got promoted to detective. Maybe in that capacity he was less dangerous to the public. I always figured he would be fired, be shot or end up in prison. Somehow he slid by and retired several years ago.
