The food was very good but the bar is open to the restaurant. From the time we got there to the time we left, there were people talking/screaming/arguing at the bar and no one asked them to lower their voices. We would have stayed for coffee and dessert but an hour was more than enough. I don't mind some noise. You get that at a pub. But it was obvious that management cared more about keeping the "bar room brawl" going than their restaurant patrons. And the waitress was less than attentive. We will not be returning.
I am traveling for work and a client brought me to Blackthorn. Everything was great! I tried the Ripper wrap-the blackened chicken was so awesome, and I am very glad I switched from the tortilla chips to the tater tots. Maggie our server was attentive but not on top of us and my soda never got to the bottom-was refilled without having to ask. I would go back in a minute. The beer garden looks like a great place to hang out on the weekends!
As a small table of 10 we had a wonderful experience with great food and raved about this south town gem. After a recent large group event (approx 75) where children 4+ cost $11 and adults $22 (our party included tax and tip in these prices) we were very disappointed. The buffet ran out of food and the manager hid in the office (literally refused to come out and speak with host), eventually came out and said she could make French fries because the seasoned potatoes and pasta came prepared in bags and they couldn't make more. Until the French fries the kids only ate rolls since the chicken, pasta, and potatoes were heavily seasoned with herbs. Unfortunately this experience left us all hungry like after a fancy pants wedding where you leave and head to taco bell for something of substance.
We had dinner here when traveling with friends. My friend and her husband posted a bad review and then was harassed and called names! How ridiculous considering she only posted the experience we had. Just a few I can think of, first we each had our daughter with us and was put WAY in the back, in the corner and where the waitresses had to squeeze past us EVERY time they got a drink from the bar. Next, we had to ask 3 times, not once for chocolate to be added to her daughters chocolate milk and the waitress rolled her eyes at us! I had to pay EXTRA for onions,peppers and cheese for my Philly sandwich, which clearly states on the menu it was included. When asked where my cheese was that I had to pay EXTRA for, I was told it seeped into the bread! What??!! Then, her husband asked for his Cider drink with no ice and was told there is an additional fee to have no ice! Took forever and they screwed something else up with her daughters food, but it took almost an hour to get our sandwiches and burgers, we just left and had to stop and get her some fast food.
I ordered out from there last night. I have always had great food from here. I ordered a double order of wings and a bowl of beer cheese soup. The wings were amazing BUT the soup was horrible. Tasted like stale flat beer. I haven't gotten this soup I a while but it tasted nothing like I remember. Hopefully it was just a bad batch..still love this place though!!
Bottom line yes, go for individual dinners, NOT for a group "buffet".
