I grew up in Williamsville and moved away after college. I now live near Washington, DC. Whenever my wife, son and I go back to visit family, we always stop at Wolter's. For the decades that I have known them, their breads and pastries simply have no match. My favorites include the jam tarts and mini cakes. My 15 year old son loves the eclairs and napoleons. My wife favors the cookies. The place has remained unchanged for over 50 years - and that's a good thing!! I only wish we had something like them (or close to like them) in DC.
This bakery would sell a LOT MORE of their goods if the display cases were labeled. Many things look very delicious, but there is no way to identify what flavor they are. The counter people act real put out if asked what something is and some of them don't know either.
WoW! Everything here looks and smells so good! The fudge nut cookies were amazing! The iced coffee there wakes you up and keeps you up all day!
This place makes everything fresh from scratch, baked daily. I really enjoy their sourdough rye, pumpernickel, and challah bread (the challah is so fluffy and makes excellent French toast). Their donuts are some of the best around (can't beat their apple fritters and angel cream donuts). For something savory they have ham and cheese croissants (as well as plain, almond, and Nutella). For dessert, I'm partial to their dark chocolate dipped cookies, napoleons (in house made puff pastry layered with custard and whipped cream), and the mont blanc (a mountain of shortbread cookies and mocha buttercream covered in dark chocolate). The desserts are amazing and the prices can't be beaten. It's always a delight going here. You really can't go wrong. Fun fact: they are one of the only places in Buffalo to find "white" chocolate chip cookies (the cookies are white, not the chocolate).
Exceptional Bakery. Fantastic sweets, and delightful treats at Wolter's Bakery. Sit back and enjoy a great cup of coffee while you chat with friends while you munch on some of your favorite pastries. Try the Napoleons...it's better than taking a trip back in time!
