I am so impressed with the Darwin Martin's house staff. They have been incredibly helpful in arranging a French language tour for my in-laws visit to Buffalo. Sue,my contact at the Darwin Martin house, arranged a translator for us and kept in close communication as we got the details worked out. What an amazing experience. She is a brilliant ambassador to this awesome architectural gem. We are very excited to take the tour (in French!).
My friend and I booked a two hour tour, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves for the whole two hours at the site. It is a wonderful representation and restoration of Frank Lloyd Wright's work.
Full disclosure: I live around the corner and have watched the restoration and its previous state for 37 years. It's a beautiful building, and the restoration is spectacular. The volunteer docents very effectively explain Wright's architecture and his relationship with the Martins. Nearly all questions answered well. I haven't seen the recently restored fireplace--I'll rectify that soon. The adjacent Greatbach Pavilion is tasteful and respectful of the Wright building and contains a useful introduction. Anyone interested in architecture or in learning the kind of thought and art and personal relations that goes into an architectural project won't be disappointed.
Absolutely amazing architecture! And so much history in this property! The tour was great, however, we only did the one hour tour so we didn't get to see the second floor- be sure to do the 2 hour tour. Only complaint is that pictures aren't allowed in the house.
This is a marvelous place to visit. The docent was excellent. Wright was brilliant and his designs beautiful.
